Mary the Superhero

Sooooo I’m most likely going to this Halloween party with a Superhero theme…I’m trying to think of good costume ideas and I think I’ve come up with just the right one…..

                MARY POPPINS!!

My reasoning for Mary Poppins being a superhero?

A)     She can fly

B)      She has a magic purse

C)      She can jump INTO chalk drawings

D)     She saves little children

E)      She is a good citizen…(She feeds the birds)

F)      She made up the longest word in the world

G)     She has an AWESOME sidekick (Bert)

H)     She’s “practically perfect in every way.”

I)        She can make medicine taste good

J)       She brings families closer together

K)      Even dancing penguins obey her!

Need I say more? Take that Wonder Woman! Mary Poppins it is!

Statistically, 6 out of 7 dwarves aren't happy...Just sayin.

I know what you're thinking...what the heck does her blog post title have to do with anything?? I'll tell you... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Ok actually that's not true. It ties in...kind of.

Oh my goodness. So much to catch up on. Put your seatbelts on ladies and gents. Where to start?!

The week of October 3rd was BYU Homecoming Week! Booyah! The week was full of fun activities...most of which I didn't participate in becuase A) I was studying like a mad man. B) Provo decided to pretend it was Antarctica for the week. Freezing whether in the beginning of October?? SNOW WAY! (Notice what I did there? Nice.) I don't think so, Utah. This is not going to work for me. Anyways! The week was fun nonetheless. I'll just tell you about my week through pictures :)

FHE group finger painting activity!

On Saturday morning Aubrie and Aaron and I went to the blue pancake breakfast and parade! It was so fun! The parade had a float with Brigham Young on it, LLAMAS! (I got really excited about this as you can tell by the picture), my folk dancing friends performing, LOTS of yummy taffy, and Jimmer! Okay. Lied about the Jimmer part. Sorry.

That night was the homecoming game and we won! Wooo! Rach and I went to Daniel's apartment afterwards to stock up on some hot chocolate. Stephen's brand, of course.

To keep us sane through midterms week we had to find ways to entertain ourselves...our answer? The library! Who knew, right? That week there were scavenger hunts going on in the library which we attempted to participate in. Even better than scavenger hunts in the library? The music that blasts from 11:45 to Migdnight to kick people out of the library. Madi and I had so much fun dancing on Thursday night to the music that the next night we decided to do it again! This time joined by Dallin, Rose, and Sam...and a special guest...the stinking Joker! Not acceptable. This is our new favorite hobby. We also took a million pictures. Here are a few.

The next day I gave a talk in church on trials and how we can become more like Christ through them. I hope my ideas came out alright. That day we decided that we wanted a change of scenery in our apartment...SOOOOO we decided to steal...er I mean borrow one of the couches from the downstairs lobby and move it into our apartment to create stadium seating!

SUCCESS!

Phew! This blogpost is halfway over. So take a moment to stretch and do what you need to :) Okay! So the next day we had an FHE indexing party! Wooo! Then on Tuesday I went to see the movie "A More Perfect Union" for my America Heritage class with my friend Jeffrey. Then the next day, my Mommy came!!! WOOOOOOO!!! Aubrie, Aaron, and I went to the airport to go pick her up. I hid in the trunk and suprised her when she went to put her luggage in :)

The next day April and I were in charge of cooking dinner for the roommates. It turned out pretty darn well if I do say so myself.

The next day, Friday, was the best!! My friend Amanda Welch and I drove to Orem because we heard Disney was holding auditions for characters there! It was so fun! Sadly I don't have any pictures :( We made the first call back and then got cut. It was awesome though! We got to learn a really fun dance to a remix of small world. After that Aubrie and I drove up the canyon to meet up with the Wray girls at the cabin for their annual "ginger-bread house making weekend." I love these ladies! They are such great examples to me and I had so much fun spending Friday and Saturday with them. Overall I think we made over 40 houses. We didn't decorate them...all the moms just come up to make the ginerbread pieces to put together for their own families when it gets closer to Christmas. This is no small task though. Gingerbread houses are a BIG deal in my family. Each house has a different pattern, stained glass windows, etc. It was fun for all of us to be up there together! I was especially glad my mom flew up for the weekend so Aubs and I could spend her birthday with her on Friday! To celebrate we played games, opened gifts, ate yummy cake, and watched a couple movies. I don't have many pictures of the weekend as they're on my mom's camera but here are a few.

We had a little too much fun with these games...

And here's a picture of the gingerbread houses from a couple years ago to give you an idea of how much love goes into making them :)

Sunday afternoon my mom picked me up and we drove out to Aubrie and Aaron's church to hear them speak in sacrament meeting. They did a great job! What a couple! Haha (shout-out to you Aubs. You're welcome). Then we went back to their place and ate dinner. Yum! We also watched some different "I am a Mormon" videos. Here's two that I really liked :)

The next night all the cousins were invited over to the Story's home for a big "Hats off to Halloween" party thrown by my mom and aunt Jan. They know how to throw a party! I was so happy that my mom threw this party while she was here because it is one of my favorite Halloween traditions that I didn't want to miss out on. We played all sorts of games like a Halloween "I Spy" game, a relay race, and a game where you have a character name taped on your back and have to guess who it is. The only game I didn't like was the "Story of Hal Oween" and how he died. For the game as my mom told the story of Hal we had to reach into different bags and feel objects such as his brain, his ears, his heart, etc. It was SICK! Never again. For the dinner portion of the party we always have a fun Halloween themed menu. The items on the menu have been known to include things like "Sugared bat brains," "Frankenstein's intestines," "Dracula's blood," you get the idea. This year's food was delicious! The people at each table get to pick which scary item on the menu they want without really knowing what that item is. My group ended up choosing our meal in a reverse order. We ended up being served dessert first, and the drink last. That's just the way it works at the Hansen Halloween parties :) Everyone wore a funny hat to the party. It was a blast! Here are some pics!

Last but not least was my day yesterday with Aubrie and my Mom! Mom picked us up from school in the afternoon and we went out to lunch at Costa Vida :) :) :) Mmmmmmmm. Then we went to the Disneyland of grocery stores...Winco. That place is the best! Mom spoiled me with way more groceries than I needed. Next to the Disneyland of crafty stores...The Quilted Bear. We probably spent 3 hours there. It was so cute! Then finally my favorite part of the day....SAVERS! Sorry Salt Lake City citizens, but the Hansen girls cleaned out all the awesome, ugly Christmas sweaters the Savers in Salt Lake had to offer. We scored big time. I'd say 6 hideous sweaters later makes a successful shopping trip. The Christmas ones we bought will be shown at a later date. But don't be suprised if you see me walking around in the other 3 ridiculous sweaters I bought. I might not be able to resist wearing them. They're just that great.

Inside the Quilted Bear. Awesome, right?

One of the many random items sold at that store. Creepy.

Our little carts FILLED with ugly sweaters to try on. I'm so sad I couldn't get them all :(

One of my personal favorites. Mom wouldn't let me get it though. Her words: "Carlie, we want you to attract boys, not scare them away." What?? You're telling me that sweater wouldn't attract boys?!

Well folks, those were my past couple of weeks!
P.S. I read this hilarious book called "The Little Book of Stress" this past weekend. It tells you all sorts of good ideas for how to CREATE stress in your life and in others lives. Everytime I post I'll share a new suggestion.

Stress tip # 1: Do your weekly shopping in a big supermarket on a Saturday morning. Take your children with you. If you don't have any children of your own...borrow some :)
